The airline operates 675 routes throughout most of Europe, with flights to Morocco, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan and Israel.

It is based at London-Luton Airport but its main base in Continental Europe is Milan-Malpensa. There are in fact 3 airline bases in Italy: the Milan-Malpensa airport, Naples-Capodichino airport, and Venice-Tessera airport.

Making thousands of flights every day, it happens to many people to find themselves involved in an airline inconvenience caused precisely by EasyJet. Let’s now see together how you can take action in such cases and request a refund and/or compensation.

Beware of confusion: Differences and clauses for EasyJet Refund and Compensation!

Let’s look at the differences:

EasyJet Refund

REFUND is the return of the amount of money paid (cost of the ticket in the first place) provided in the case of:

  • Flight canceled
  • Overbooked flight
  • Exceptional circumstances for which the company cannot be held responsible for inconvenience and missed departure, such as adverse weather conditions, strikes, health alert

EasyJet also adds among the case studies:

  • Flight delayed more than 5 hours

As a result of these inconveniences, Easyjet will offer the opportunity to:

  • receive a voucher Easyjet to the value of the entire reservation, usable within 12 months
  • obtain a refund of the entire reservation directly to the bank account
  • Be re-routed on the first available flight

Should you decide to proceed with the latter alternative, EasyJet will cover all expenses or guarantee the reimbursement of all extra expenses incurred, such as extra nights in hotels, transportation, price difference of a newly purchased flight, travel that was not planned to reach another airport, etc.

EasyJet Compensation

REIMBURSEMENT (or compensation or pecuniary compensation) has nothing to do with the cost of the ticket, but is a sum of money that is due to the passenger, as established by European Regulation EC 261/2004 to compensate for inconveniences suffered as a result of:

  • Flight canceled
  • Denied boarding due to overbooking
  • Delayed flight
  • Lost or damaged luggage

You are not entitled to Easyjet compensation if:

  • The passenger was notified of the flight cancellation at least 2 weeks before departure
  • The passenger was notified of the flight cancellation between 2 weeks and 7 days before departure and was re-routed to a flight that allows him to leave no more than 2 hours before scheduled departure and to reach his final destination less than 4 hours after scheduled arrival
  • The passenger was notified of the flight cancellation less than 7 days before departure and was re-routed to a flight that allows him or her to depart no more than 1 hour before scheduled departure and to reach his or her final destination less than 2 hours after scheduled arrival
  • cancellation is due to exceptional circumstances not directly attributable to the Airline, such as air traffic control, weather conditions, civil unrest, terrorist alerts and security reasons, and strikes

How to apply for EasyJet compensation?

If the flight has been canceled (and the passenger was not notified in time and not offered an alternative as stated in the clauses above), if the flight arrived late o was denied boarding due to overbooking and all of these cases are not due to Force Majeure and not directly attributable to EasyJet, the passenger is entitled to compensation that varies depending on the distance between the departure and arrival airports, specifically:

  • € 250.00 for all routes less than or equal to 1,500 km
  • €400.00 for routes between 1,500 km and 3,500 km
  • € 600.00 for routes greater than 3,500 km

The refund amount could be reduced by 50 percent if EasyJet was able to re-route the passenger on an alternate flight to the final destination, provided he or she arrives:

  • Within 2 hours of the flight’s originally scheduled arrival time for all air routes of 1500 km or less
  • Within 3 hours of the flight’s originally scheduled arrival time for all European air routes between 1500 km and 3500 km
  • Within 4 hours of the flight’s originally scheduled arrival time for all other air routes
